>>> I4EAT - IN MEMORIAM <<<

Fausto Minardi, I4EAT died of Covid-19 on 31 March aged 71. Your trulies
have lost a dear personal friend, and Italy has lost one of its top DXers.
Licensed since 1968, during the Seventies Fausto operated almost exclusive-
ly on 2 metres. While experimenting with all propagation modes, in 1978 he
made the first ever 2m EME QSO from Italy, and in 1979 he established a TEP
world record (QSO with ZS3B, nearly 8,000 kilometres away).
Fausto started activity on the other bands in 1979, and in August 1982 he
got his 5BWAZ with 200 Zones. He made the first Top Band QSO in 1984: "for
several years my chances were limited due to very modest setup", he re-
called, but "with the new century I have experienced the extraordinary per-
formance of the beverage antennas and my score on that band really im-
proved". He became QRV on 6 metres in April 2001, and it took only seven
months for him to work the 100th Entity on the Magic Band. Fausto's latest
scores on 160 and 6 metres are 317 and 229 respectively; his current/total
DXCC Honor Roll scores are 340/357 (Mixed), 340/357 (Phone), 339/349 (CW)
and 332/335 (Digital).
With 3129 band points, he won the 2007 DXCC Challenge DeSoto Cup and took
the title away from W4DR for the first time ever. Fausto maintained the lead
until 2012; the current DXCC Challenge standings see him in third place with
3239 band points.
In 1999 he entered the IOTA Programme and developed a genuine enthusiasm for
island chasing. The latest IOTA Honour Roll Listing shows I4EAT with 1116
groups out of a possible 1136 that have seen activity, and he still leads
the IOTA VHF Listing with 221 credits.

4U1A: QRX OR QRT? ---> Located at the UN International Centre in Vienna,
Austria, the Amateur Radio Contest DX Club (4U1A) has been very active since
2014. The club has now "entered a period of severe turbulence", as they have
been told that their antenna systems "do not comply with new fire safety
rules and other standards and will be dismantled by the VIC building
maintenance service by the end of March 2021". Reinstalling the antennas
will take a lot of time and money, as the work must be done "by a company
certified by the UN in Vienna and fully authorized to do so". The club "will
gratefully accept any donation to support the club and cover the costs of
the work": see http://www.cqdx.ru/4u1a/arcdxc/4u1a-arcdxc-2021-qrt-or-qrx/
for information.

7D5RI ---> The logs for the 7D5RI DXpedition to Rupat Island (OC-245) have
been uploaded to Club Log. The logsearch contains 2,089 QSOs made on 25-27
March. QSL via EA5GL (see https://www.qrz.com/db/ea5gl for PayPal instruc-
tions for direct cards).

CLUB LOG ACTIVITY REPORT: 2021 UPDATE ---> "As in previous years, I've gen-
erated some new reports to reveal trends about how we're using different
modes on the bands", Michael, G7VJR posted to his website on 27 March. "This
year, I've generated a few extra reports to try and explore other relevant
trends about activity levels (working from home, perhaps?) and the use of
different bands (which correlates well with solar activity)". At the time of
writing, "Club Log has 731 million QSOs recorded, which is sufficient for
trends found in the data to be robust". The report can be found on
https://g7vjr.org/2021/03/club-log-activity-report-2021-update/.

QSL NL0H ---> Henry, NL0H (St. Lawrence Island, NA-040) "has finally managed
to sort out his QSLs requests that up to now had not been processed". These
cards are for QSOs made in 2019 and 2020 before M0OXO took over the role as
his QSL manager. Henry "apologises for the delay and advises that the cards
will be mailed out the next time he is in Nome on the mainland. Hopefully
this will be within the next fortnight". [TNX M0OXO]

VISALIA 2021 ---> Last year's International DX Convention was cancelled
owing to health and safety issues arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. This
year there will be a Virtual Convention to be held on 15 and 16 May, with
eight DX-related and eight exhibitor Zoom webinars respectively. Free pre-
registration is required and will begin on 18 April. The webinars will be
recorded and posted to the Northern California DX Club's website at a later
date. See https://www.dxconvention.com/ for more information, including the
programme details.
