"January 2020 has seen some of the worst bush fires tear across
Kangaroo Island in living memory", Grant says. "Over half the
island (200,000 hectares or 2,000 square kilometres) has been
burned, more than fifty homes were destroyed, two people lost their
lives and many tens of thousands of animals were killed". Grant
urges island chasers to consider supporting the recovery efforts by
making a donation to the South Australia State Emergency Relief
Fund, the Nature Foundation SA's Wildlife Recovery Fund, or the
Kangaroo Island Mayor's Bushfire Relief Fund. "All of the costs of
the expedition itself are being met by the team", he adds. "We are
not looking for direct contributions for this project, but would
rather people contribute to the affected communities directly". See

2020 IOTA HONOUR ROLL & ANNUAL LISTING ---> The last date for mailing score
updates to checkpoints for inclusion in the 2020 Honour Roll and Annual
Listing is 31 January (it is advisable not to wait until the very last mo-
ment, though). If postmarked after that date, they will be processed in the
normal way, but the scores will be held over to the following year's list-
ing. Participants who have not updated since the 2015 annual listings and
wish to remain listed should make a submission before 31 January. Further-
more, those who have not logged into their record for more than two years,
will need to revalidate their registration through info[@]iota-world.org. Do
not leave it to the last moment as you may run out of time.

VP8PJ ---> In their Press Release #10 (20 January, https://sorkney.com/) the
South Orkney Islands DXpedition team reported that the final approval has
been received ("landing and camping at South Orkney requires permission from
several government agencies, and this multi step process takes months to
complete"), the sea container arrived in Punta Arenas (Chile) on 13 January,
and new companies have joined the corporate sponsors team.
The operating team "will follow a rotating 4 hours on and 8 hours off
schedule", and "each team member is assigned tasks while on the island.
Major activities are prioritized and staffed accordingly. The Braveheart
crew will help with the heavy lifting and other setup activities. After
landing, designated teams will first erect the WeatherPort shelters, install
the power grid, and furnish the sleeping and operating shelters. Meanwhile
the antenna teams will install the HF antennas, followed by the low band
antennas. Weather permitting, setup is expected to take approximately two
days".
As for fundraising, 52 clubs/foundations, over 500 individuals and 60
Premier Sponsors have supported the project so far. "We appreciate the
support from the worldwide DX and amateur radio community", the team says,
and "we continue to make progress towards our goal of the radio team paying
50% of the project cost with sponsorships paying the remainder". One more
press release is expected before the team leaves home in early February.
